7,000 Ounces Of Gold Stolen In Heist
There are a lot of folks out in the world committing stupid crimes for stupid reasons. Though there are a lot of nuts out there breaking laws all will nilly for whatever reason, there are some real criminals left in the world, though. This is not an endorsement of their crimes, just a respect for individuals who use their brains to pull off unthinkable capers for high stakes. An example of this type of criminal mind comes from a story of a gold heist in Mexico earlier this week.
On Tuesday, the McEwen Mining, Inc. was the victim of a brazen burglary. Multiple armed robbers hit the Canadian based miner’s El Gallo 1 site in Mexico and they weren’t playing around. The crooks left the mine with 7,000 ounces of raw gold. It is estimated that in that haul, there is 900 kilograms of gold-bearing concentrate. Gold is not a lightweight item. If the robbers were not a team of weight lifters, they probably needed a little bit of time to get all 7,000 ounces of the gold out. With gold currently being valued at $1,208 per ounce, the heist could potentially earn the robbers $8.5 million.
There are a few bright spots for the victimized company. No employees were harmed during the robbery and the jux will not be a complete loss for the company, at least. McEwen Mining is insured in case something like this was to happen. However, the way their insurance plan is set up, they will not be recompensed in full for all of the gold that was taken. Mexican authorities are investigating the robbery. McEwen Mining may want to bolster security at its gold and silver mine in Argentina.
