Michael Jordan has a billion dollar cushion due to the popularity of his Jordan Brand sneakers. Sneakerheads camp out in front of stores whenever a new pair is released and pay big bucks for resold Jays. However, it seems like every time we hear about a new pair of Jordans dropping, there is always an incident in which one of the possessors of the coveted sneakers are assaulted by someone who wants their kicks. A recent case coming out of the Atlanta area shows just how desperate people are for Jordans and how clouded their thinking becomes when it comes to the signature sneaker.
Two teens are behind bars today for robbing a younger teen at gunpoint for his $200 Jordans as he got off the school bus. Davon Luckett, 17, and Reed Williams, 19, were waiting, strapped, on a nearby street corner peeping the scene. First, Williams flashed the gun at the young man, but left him alone, saying, “I would rob you, but you know my baby momma.” Though Williams let the boy loose, Luckett was determined to get the sneakers. He hopped out of the car with the burner and told the boy to hand the Jays over. Scared for his life, the boy obliged, taking the sneakers off and giving them to Luckett. “He saw the shoes, he wanted the shoes, he took the shoes,” surmised Clayton County lieutenant Frank Thomas.
Luckett and Williams took to social media to boast about their new come up, even posting pictures wearing the sneakers. In an even more stupid move, after the two were arrested and brought in for questioning, Luckett was wearing the stolen Jordans! The robbery suspects have been charged with felony counts of aggravated assault and armed robbery. If convicted, they face a maximum of 20 years in prison.
