Society was shook up after the murder of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee. People were mortified by the fact that grown men would lure a child into an alley and shoot him to death over gang beef. Unfortunately, little Tyshawn’s death isn’t an isolated incident. An indictment coming out of Atlanta shows just how cold-blooded and gruesome gangsterdom can get. The point of interest is the 2014 murder of 9-month-old KenDarious Edwards Jr..
The ordeal started with KenDarious’ uncle, Oslushsla Smith, a member of the Sex Money Murder Bloods set in Atlanta. He was convicted of murdering fellow Blood, 17-year-old Alexis Malone. Smith felt that the teen ratted him out to police for fatally shooting Michael Phillips, 29, in a Stone Mountain apartment where the group gathered to watch a Floyd Mayweather match.
Like in the Mafia’s Commission, Sex Money Murder members need a green light from a higher authority to kill anyone in the gang. Smith did not have authorization to kill Malone, so it was decided that his family had to pay for his transgressions. From behind the wall at Autry State Prison, Kenneth Eric Jackson, leader of Georgia’s Sex Money Murder, used a smuggled cell phone to give orders to send the goons through to assail Smith’s family, according to the indictment announced on Tuesday by DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James.
On the day before Mother’s Day 2014, masked up Sex Money Murder members Marco Watson, Christopher Florence and Devin Thomas allegedly forced their way into KenDarious’ grandmother’s home, cornering the baby, who was being held by his mother Tanyika Smith in the bathroom, along with his grandmother and a female family friend. The horrified quartet were then fired on with a hail of bullets. All three women were wounded. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
KenDarious’ mother, Tanyika Smith, was hit eight times as she held her infant son while hiding in a bathtub that bloody day in 2014. She suffered permanent damage to her vision and sense of smell and taste when one of the bullets lodged in her face.
Her biggest loss was that of her baby son. KenDarious died in his mother’s arms.
Thomas was convicted for firing the fatal shots in November 2015. According to the indictment, Jackson, Watson and Florence are all charged with malice murder, felony murder, multiple counts of aggravated assault and violation of Georgia’s Street Gang and Terrorism Act. According to reports, Watson allegedly participated in the shooting as part of his initiation into Sex Money Murder.
Also indicted is Eunice English, who has been charged with “one count each of kidnapping and aggravated assault for intimidating a witness who was cooperating with police.”
