For every mule that gets busted moving contraband through an airport, there’s another one thinking their smuggling venture will go undetected. We’ve seen everything from a man smuggling weight in his drawls to a woman who had surgery to insert breast implants with a kilo of coke stashed in them. No matter the means, folks with hopes of getting a few thousand dollars from an international D-Boy end up going down hard. Needles to say, U.S. Customs Borders and Protection agents get lots of action.
Last week, at JFK Airport (a common location for drug smuggling busts), Mexican citizen Jesus Martinez Ramirez thought shit was sweet when he attempted to smuggle coke in cakes. However, when he arrived at JFK, via Mexico City, the CBP was on it. CBP agricultural specialists executed an X-ray examination of Martinez Ramirez’s luggage. They noticed something off about one of the cakes he had concealed in his stuff. Upon further investigation, agents found a package inside of the pastry. Martinez Ramirez was taken to a private search room, where the package tested positive for cocaine. In all, there were five hollowed out, yeo-filled cakes with a total of 2 pounds (about a kilo) of blow inside of them. The haul is said to be worth $33,000.
Jesus Martinez Ramirez was placed under arrest, then handed over to the Port Authority Police Department. In Queens County District Court, he will be prosecuted on state narcotics smuggling charges.
