The Griselda movement is one of the premier collectives maneuvering through the underground hip-hop scene right now. The lyrical prowess displayed by the Buffalo natives over vintage hip-hop instrumentals is like a breath of fresh air for rap purists. The latest project to emerge from the GXFR camp is Benny The Butcher’s new album, Tana Talk 3, which dropped today.
Benny whet fan’s appetites earlier this month with his fire video for the track “Joe Pesci 38.” Now, fans have 14 tracks to vibe out to on Black Friday. The project is produced entirely by Griselda’s in-house beatmaker Daringer and the legendary Alchemist. Lending bars to the effort are comrades Westside Gunn and Conway the Machine, as well as Royce Da 5’9″ and Mayhem Lauren.
“My block is called Montana,” Benny detailed in an interview with Hip-Hop DX. “We call it Tana for short. In 2000s – here’s some history right here. In 2005, I dropped a mixtape called Tana Talk 2, because I already did one that was 1. So it’s like, when I put 2 out, it was couple people buzzing in the city and doing they thing. But when I put 2 out, I shocked the whole city. People still talk about that tape to this day. And it’s like, people knew what I was, what type of time I was on. I was hungry, I was killing shit. It was West’s idea to name it Tana Talk 3, because like I said, he wanted to recreate that energy.”
