Catherine Zeta-Jones To Play Griselda Blanco In Biopic
If you are a fan of the acclaimed documentary Cocaine Cowboys, you know it was a woman running the show in Miami in the 80’s. The doc devotes a lot of time to tell part of the story of Colombian queenpin, Griselda Blanco, “The Godmother.” She was a ruthless boss who was responsible for many deaths in Miami. She would send her shooters to spray up spots with machine guns. She was also responsible for unimaginable amounts of earnings for the Medellin Cartel’s cocaine empire. Her tumultuous reign led to her arrest and deportation to Colombia.
She was found dead in Colombia a few years ago (she had many enemies), however, Hollywood is looking to immortalize Blanco with a biopic. The film is titled, The Godmother and Academy Award winner, Catherine Zeta-Jones will play Griselda Blanco (there were earlier reports that Jennifer Lopez was going to do the role). It is directed by Norwegian filmmaker, Eva Sørhaug. It will show Blanco’s rise to becoming one of the most feared drug lords in the world.
With biopics being so popular nowadays and the popularity of Cocaine Cowboys, it is expected for The Godmother to be a hit. There is even Oscar talk swirling. Fans can’t wait.
