It’s no secret that rap music is often chock-full of violent lyrics. However, ever goon with a gun isn’t fit to be a lyrical assassin or hit maker. In fact, much of the mayhem rappers include in their bars are imagined, not something that they actually did in their lifetimes. Canadian rapper Adrian Daou’s career has been put on hold. He is currently sitting in jail for the axe murder of prostitute Jennifer Stewart in Ottawa. He claims that he carried out the act in hopes of augmenting his prowess as an emcee.
Daou’s trial for the murder started Monday. He gave a muddled confession for the killing in an attempt to get transferred from Innes Road Jail to a prison so he would have more “space.” The National Post describes the bizarre confession:
In a dramatic confession, Daou, at the request of the detective, re-enacted the crime by violently swinging a cardboard tube at a chair in an interview room. He laughed when he started swinging.
He told police that Stewart kept her arms down and didn’t try to protect herself during the attack, but the jury has heard that she suffered severe defensive wounds as she tried in vain to do exactly that. Daou said he accidentally struck himself in the foot with the axe but suffered no injuries.
When Daou saw Stewart walking down the street that night, he deemed killing her as the perfect opportunity to boost his rap career. He lured the 36-year-old sex worker into a parking lot under the guise of a drug dealer, then attacked her. “I had this idea if I killed someone, I’d be a really good rapper. People talk about that killer stuff,” said Daou, who spit bars every time he was left alone in the interview room.
After fleeing the scene and changing clothes, Daou smoked a joint. As he blew it down, he claims Stewart’s ghost flew by haunting him.
