Yet again, we find ourselves at an American airport where someone was caught trying to smuggle big weight of cocaine. This time, LAX in Los Angeles was the scene, and the culprit was an alleged Jet Blue flight attendant. However, she ran off on the laws and left them in the dust. She ditched her bags, which contained anywhere from 60 to 70 pounds of coke (roughly 27-31 kilos) and her Gucci shoes.
The incident occurred on Friday. The suspect, who was not in uniform, showed a Jet Blue when she arrived at the security checkpoint. Traditionally, crew members are exempt from searches, but she was still selected for a random screening at Terminal 4. According to NBC News, the flight attendant appeared nervous and made a phone call in a foreign language the authorities could not identify. As she was taken to the secondary screening area, she grabbed her bags and broke out. As she ran, she dropped the bags and kicked off her Guccis, then hauled ass down an up escalator. When TSA agents searched her bags, they found the weight inside.
The incident has caused airport administrators to reconsider the usual non-searching of employees. According to the LA Times, an excerpt from a statement from Marshall McClain, president of the Los Angeles Airport Peace Officers Assn. Airport reads, “Just like traveling passengers, airport and airline employees should undergo the same screening to help decrease the opportunities for these employees to commit crimes and to help eliminate ‘insider’ or ‘lone wolf’ criminal activity.”
