Could Amazon Flex Be The Job For You?

Could Amazon Flex Be The Job For You?

In 2018, jobs are not that easy to come by, especially if you have a felony on your record. More and more, people are turning to companies like Uber, so they can make money on their own time and “be their own boss.” One study predicted that 40% of workers in the United States will be independent contractors by 2020. There is another service out there that may be a good look for you if you don’t mind a little driving. That service is Amazon Flex, a branch of e-commerce giant Amazon.

This is how it works. Like with Uber, to participate, you supply your own vehicle and smartphone, so that you can be notified of new gigs. Instead of chauffeuring people in your car, you would be picking up packages ordered through Prime/ Prime Now, Amazon Locker, Restaurant or merchant pickups, and dropping them off.

Now, you may be asking yourself if you qualify to be a courier for Amazon Flex. According to Ride Sharing Driver (a site dedicated to helping people find and apply to jobs with on-demand apps), you must be at least 21-years-old and have a valid social security number, as well as access to a qualifying vehicle (4-door sedan, pickup truck, or van), a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and a smartphone (iPhone 5 or newer; Android phone running Android version 4.4 or higher).

Additionally, there is a background check which goes seven years into your past in search of felonies and other major criminal violations. A past felony or infraction doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t get the job. Amazon is known as being a felon-friendly company, depending on the crime(s) committed. According to Ride Sharing Driver, having violations involving violence or theft on your rap sheet will more than likely disqualify you for a spot with Amazon Flex. The background check also includes a motor vehicle record check, to see if there are any major driving violations or a large number of citations on it.

Now that you know what it takes to be an Amazon Flex driver, if you know you would qualify, it may be a good look for you. The reported pay that drivers receive ranges from $18 to $25 per hour. Shifts come in four-hour blocks which can be scheduled ahead of time or as shifts become available. It may be worth a shot.
