A New Jersey man was praised in court after he tearfully admitted to killing his old Boy Scout leader who raped him as a child.
According to the New York Daily News, Clark Fredericks says he was abused and raped by retired correction officer Dennis Pegg from the age of 8 to 12. Fredericks says he lived his life in shame and regret for never telling anyone his painful secret. In 2012, his feelings came to a head when he entered Pegg’s home three years ago and stabbed him a total of 20 times. Pegg was found dead on the scene.
“From the time I was 8 years old until I was 12 years old, I was sexually assaulted and raped by Dennis Pegg,” Fredericks said. “It started with him wanting to touch my scar that I had through open-heart surgery at the age of 6. It progressed to wrestling matches and eventually led to him raping me.”
Pegg allegedly raped other young boys during his time as a Boy Scout leader. Many of his other victims testified in Fredericks’ case. Child pornography was also found on Pegg’s computer at the time of his death. Fredericks says after seeing the Jerry Sandusky child molestation case unfold, he knew that Pegg would never pay for his alleged crimes.
“My reaction to seeing Sandusky get out of that car with his lawyer is that Dennis Pegg would never be held accountable,” Fredericks said. “The next day — June 12, 2012 — my shell cracked. My mind flooded with images, memories, anger and mostly shame.”
Fredericks pleaded guilty Wednesday, to passion provocation manslaughter. The Newton, NJ native could be facing five to 10 years in prison as part of his plea deal. He will be sentenced in August.
