It sucks when we lose a loved one to death. When it happens, grieving families are tasked with making funeral arrangements. In attempts to make sure the life is honored, the bereaved sit with funeral directors and choose the best casket, clothes, accessories and flowers that they can afford. The family of Fernando de Jesus Diaz Beato took his home-going to the next level.
Tragically, Fernando, 26, was shot 15 times outside of his home in the San Juan neighborhood of Villa Carolina on March 3. The reasons for his death are unknown. In death, Fernando’s family wanted him to be remembered as he lived. In an extremely unconventional decision, a casket was foregone and Fernando was embalmed sitting up in a chair with his legs crossed and eyes opened.Furthermore, to preserve Fernando’s spirit, he was swagged out in a “big pony” Polo rugby shirt, a fresh pair of “Bright Concord” Jordan VII’s, a fitted and schoolboy frames. As an ultimate accent, a rolled blunt was placed between Fernando’s fingers. He could have easily been mannequin at your favorite urban clothing store.
According to The Mirror, Fernando’s sister, Ihizz Diaz Beato, said, “We decided to embalm him like this because he was a very happy person, very active and we want to remember him as he was.”
Another sister said, “Everybody is really surprised because seeing him like that is like seeing him as if he were alive.”
The funeral home was totally open to delivering on the family’s wishes. They, indeed, sent their beloved Fernando off in style.
