Today on The Bandwagon, we find ourselves in the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, PA. While here, Philly emcee Famey has something for us with his new single, “Say Word.”
Famey was born and raised in the Illadelph and has been spitting since the tender age of ten. After graduating from Pennsauken High School in 2008, he decided to pursue a career in rap full-time and managed to sell-out multiple venues throughout the city and his singles received regular airplay on radio stations like Sirius XM, Philly’s Power 99 and Brooklyn College Radio. He also received a nomination for “Best Local Album” at the 11th Hour Readers Choice Awards.
In 2011, Famey scored a record deal with Grammy award winning producer Jerry ‘Wonda’ Duplessis’ Wonda Music imprint and founded Miscellaney Music Group, a collective of artists, music producers, songwriters, graphic designers, poets and talented speakers with a common goal to “open people’s eyes and ears to a greater experience of music and art.”
Famey shows his rap prowess on “Say Word,” riding the upbeat, boom bap beat like the veteran that he is. He details how he is, indeed, a “rebel, no pause/rebel with a cause.” Famey “Miscellany” brings back a feel that hasn’t been felt in hip-hop for a long time with this track. Real spit over a forceful non-808 beat. “Say Word” is definitely the sonic jolt that you need to get you going in the morning, at the gym or just riding out in general.
