On the first floor, eight members of the Snow, Loyalty Over Everything and Young Bosses gangs are on trial for allegedly rubbing out two members of a rival gang — and conspiring to commit robberies to raise bail money for a Snow gangbanger locked up in Rikers on a weapons charge.
On the third floor, four members of the A-Fam gang are on trial for murdering a man on August 5, 2010.
Now, it would seem that the defendants would keep it cool, as they are already facing some rather serious charges. Nope! The gangs in each case are rivals, and it’s apparently on sight, even in the courthouse. As the gangsters were being returned to their respective holding cells in the basement, bedlam ensued, and a hug brawl broke out. To boot, the families and friends of the gang members on trial started scrapping. In the words of an onlooker, “It was a mess.”
There are sure to be more charges in store for the battling factions, as five court officers were reportedly injured during the melee, one suffering a broken hand. As the trials resume today, the Office of Court Administration has appointed additional officers to watch each gang member. A special response team has also been ordered to patrol the steps and sidewalks of the courthouse in case supporters pop off again.
