“Side pieces” are a familiar topic on social media. A “side piece” is someone, a man or woman, in a relationship cheats on their partner with. However, there are many people out there who stay faithful, but the thought of their relationships falling apart forces them to think about another romantic option. In a recent survey conducted by the Daily Mail, it was found that half of married women have someone in mind to fall back to should their marriage fail.
The survey consisted of 1000 subjects, all married women. It found that 50 percent of the women surveyed have a Plan B should they fall out of love with their husbands and split. The options for their “fall-back lover” varied from ex-boyfriends, ex-husbands, old friends with romantic interests, colleagues and the guys at the gym. Ten percent of the women surveyed said that their backup had already professed his love for her in the past and 20 percent claimed that if ask, their backup would “drop everything” to be with her.
With the high rate of divorces, it isn’t shocking that married women are planning ahead. A representative for OnePoll.com, the company that conducted the study for the Daily Mail stated, “For our research to establish that 50 percent of women in relationships have a ‘Plan B’ is a worrying sign.”
