Though Cash Money artist Paris Hilton is most famous, Hilton family is one of the wealthiest families in our society due to their hotel empire. They have to be embarrassed now (not because of Paris) because recently, 400 kilos of cocaine were confiscated along with $1.5 million from their family ranch, Rancho Horizonte, by the Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Police (OIJ). Three Nicaraguans were arrested for the crime.
According to Gawker, the bust was because of “leftover Iran-Contra bullshit.” Gawker’s Matthew Phelan explains:
During the Reagan administration’s secret, frequently illegal, war in Nicaragua, northern Costa Rica was the staging area for the CIA and the Contras in their cocaine-and-Iranian-arms-deal-funded guerrilla war against the Left-ish Sandinista government. One of the most wealthy and prolific drug traffickers in Central America at that time, Norwin Meneses, moved over 50,000-kilos of cocaine through Costa Rica, by his own accounting, while simultaneously being an off-the-books DEA informant—and allegedly a fence for the CIA’s illicit Contra monies.
A trusted employee of the Hilton family at the 6000-acre ranch allegedly used the ranch airstrip to move large quantities of coke. The bust was the culmination of a three month investigation. The 400 kilos found (in a single engine Cessna plane was expected), but the $1.5 million (which some reports have closer to $2 million) in cash was a “surprise” for the OIJ.
Paris’s parents, Kathy and Rick Hilton frequented the ranch, but none of the Hilton’s are being charged with any crimes.Paris was in Ibiza on her “DJ residency” at Amnesia nightclub.
