How Do Prison Inmates Act Shakespeare Plays In Mexico?
The Prison Theater Company is a social impact project from the Shakespeare Forum that began in 2009 in the penitentiary of Saint Martha Acatitla in Mexico City. It aims to promote rehabilitation for inmates through fostering interest and employability in the theater arts.
The Prison Theater Company has put on a number of popular plays such as Cabaret, Richard the Third, and Waiting for Godot. In fact, this last play was performed by 5 prisoners who travelled to perform at the Shakespeare Forum, where tickets sold out.
