Ever since the death of Eric Garner at the hands of the NYPD’s finest, more and more citizens have taken on the responsibility of filming police encounters. This is needed, in many cases, as evidence that police are either doing their jobs by the book or if they’re being lawless dickheads and violating the rights of civilians.
Recently, a young Chicagoan fired up the video recorder on his cell phone to film Chicago police as they detained suspects involved in a chase. The scene is enough to scare anybody, as there was a veritable battalion of screaming Chicago police officers in every vehicle imaginable. The police brandished an arsenal of firearms ready to fire on the suspects if they blinked funny.
It is unknown what led to the chase that caused the chaos. The suspects in the gold van apparently hit a white Buick at the end. The collision seemed to render the van inoperable, but the suspects refused to come out for some reason, although it was clearly a wrap. Police forcefully expelled them from the van after busting out the windows. However, like the filmers of the incident implied, it is disturbing that with the sea of police on hand, they were all focused on pointing their guns at the suspects. Nobody attended to the occupants of the white Buick that were hit who seemed to be hurt, because they did not emerge from the car.
