America became conscious of Jared Fogle in 2000, when he appeared in Subway ads, boasting his 250 pound weight-loss, crediting the sandwiches as part of his transformation. Today, the 37-year-old is no longer a pitchman with Subway after numerous allegations of his involvement in child pornography and having sex with minors. He is expected to plead guilty to charges that he distributed and received child pornography and that he traveled across state lines t=and paid to have sex with two children.
The crimes Jared Fogle has committed have been documented with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. The documents allege that 43-year-old Russell Taylor, who heads Fogle’s charity, recorded child porn and shared it with Fogle. The documents state that Fogle, “knew that the minors depicted in these images or videos were under the age of 18 years, including minors as young as approximately 13-14 years.” The documents also allege that Fogel knew some of the children by name and “made comments approving of this activity,” to Taylor.
As far as the sex with minors, NPR reports:
In November of 2012, the documents charge, Fogle paid for sex with a 17-year-old at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. In January of 2013, the documents charge, Fogle paid for sex with another 17-year-old at the Ritz Carlton in New York City.
If convicted, Jared Fogle is facing 50 years behind bars. Since the July raid of his home, Subway severed all ties. The sandwich chain tweeted, “We no longer have a relationship with Jared and have no further comment.”
Eric Berman of 93.1 WIBC-FM/Network Indiana has reported that Jared Fogle has been offered a plea deal requiring him to pay $1.4 million in restitution. The money will be split up equally among 14 victims (12 minors identified in the pictures and the two minors he paid to have sex with). Fogle will also be ordered to undergo treatment for sexual disorders. He has been banned from having unsupervised communications/meetings with minors.
