John Gotti, infamous don of the Gambino Family, is probably the most storied gangster in modern-day La Cosa Nostra history. From his controversial rise from goon to godfather after having former boss Paul Castellano whacked to his downfall brought about by notorious muscle-turned-rat Salvatore “Sammy The Bull” Gravano is well documented. The life of “The Dapper Don” was truly a movie, and now will be actually taken to the big screen in a biopic starring famed actor John Travolta.
The movie is titled Shadow Of My Father, according to Gangsters Inc.. It is based on a book, of the same title, written by Gotti’s son, John A. Gotti. “Gotti Junior” followed in his father’s footsteps as a leading member of the Gambino Family, but has since left “the life,” after beating prosecutors in four trials. The film will be directed by Kevin Connolly, star of the popular HBO series Entourage. In preparation, Connolly was taken on a tour through Gotti’s old stomping grounds. Gotti’s daughter, Angel said, “They took [Connolly] to my mom’s house and 101st Ave in Ozone Park, [where the Bergin Hunt and Fish Club, Gotti’s headquarters used to be.].” Connolly was also shown personal home movies, so that he could see Gotti in action and present an accurate portrayal.
Filming for Shadow Of My Father is slated to begin filming on February 1, 2016. Gangsters Inc. writes:
Gotti Junior and his relatives have done their utmost best to make this movie as realistic as possible. They have given the film crew full access to their homes and archives so they can make the portrayal of Gotti Sr. true to real life. Actor John Travolta will take on the lead role of John Gotti and has spent countless hours at the home of Gotti’s widow learning about how Gotti talked, moved, and behaved.
