Mexican drug runners run wild at the US border at El Paso, TX. It is common for folks to cut holes in the fencing and climb through to deliver work to awaiting customers in the United States. Ana Hernandez and her husband, Daniel Ledezma, a former US Customs and Border Patrol officer, had a much more sophisticated operation to contribute to the flow of cocaine from Mexico into America. However, that is over for the time being. Ledezma was convicted in 2010 and is serving a prison sentence. La Muneca is now in custody after her arrest in Chihuahua City, Mexico. Known as ”’La Muneca,’ or ‘Baby Doll,’ because of her Barbie-like appearance and because of her high-spending, high-fashion lifestyle,” oversaw a cocaine pipeline from El Paso to Chicago.
La Muneca had been on the run since 2013, when she pleaded guilty to running the cocaine operation for the Juarez Cartel, an organization known for contributing a small percentage of the drugs that Chiraq (El Chapo’s Sinaloa Cartel is said to account for 80%). La Muneca and her hubby had run the cocaine pipeline since 2004. The arrangement was simple, given Ledezma’s status as a border patrol officer. She would arrange for the shipments coming from Juarez, Mexico, and Ledezma would simply wave the trucks carrying the coke through when they came to his post.
According to federal court records, her cocaine trafficking organization supplied dealers in Chicago, St. Louis and Panama City, Florida. An informant told authorities Hernandez spends large amounts of money on a lavish lifestyle, including $30,000 cash for an in-ground pool at her Texas home. In Las Vegas, the informant observed Hernandez spending thousands of dollars on clothing and shoes. In a social media photo, La Muneca is seen posing in front of her closet- accessorizing with a high-capacity rifle.
La Muneca is currently sitting in custody, awaiting extradition to Texas, where she had pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy and bribing a public official.
