Lord Jamar: Rikers Jail Was Named After a Slave Catcher Selling Back Slaves
While Azealia Banks has been involved in her fair share of online arguments, Lord Jamar told VladTV that he can see her point when she tweeted about Jim Jones calling her a name with no repercussions, while Snoop had to apologize for dissing Iggy Azalea. This led to a conversation about black people being held to a certain standard in society, as he points out that if Emmett Till were a white boy there would be a holiday named after him today.
Moving along, Lord Jamar spoke about the Kalief Browder story and how nothing would change if Rikers were shut down. He went on to point out that the Queens jail was named after Abraham Rycken, a slave catcher who would sell back free slaves into slavery.
