Millions of people tune in weekly to watch episodes from Mona Scott-Young’s Love and Hip Hop franchise. LHH has become a new school soap opera of sorts for this generation with its volatile story lines and dynamic characters.Though it is considered reality television, critics of the shows denounce it as being fake. Nothing is fake about what Love and Hip Hop: New York star Mendeecees Harris is facing. Though Mendeecees is looking forward to to getting married to partner and co-star Yandy Smith live on VH1 next month, he recently pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges.
On Tuesday afternoon, 36-year-old Mendeecees admitted to his role in a narcotics conspiracy in federal court. He owned up to being involved in a Rochester drug ring from 2005 to 2012 that moved $2.5 million in heroin and cocaine. Fans of LHHNY will remember when Yandy handled the $600,000 bail package that set him free. Mendeecees now faces eight to ten years in federal prison and fine ranging from $15,000 to $5 million. He is also required to turn over all of his earnings from ‘Love and Hip Hop: New York,’ a total of $103,000. Mendeecees’ co-defendants, brother Tyrus Harris and Ronald Walker also pleaded guilty. Walker is currently serving a ten year sentence.
Mendeecees is allowed to stay free on bail until August. This will allow Mendeecees and Yandy’s live broadcast wedding (titled Love and Hip Hop Live: The Wedding) will be able to go on. He will undoubtedly use this time to spend with his fiancee and their children. When it’s all said and done, Yandy will get the bail money back.
