Master P, one of hip-hop’s legendary moguls, recently sat down with Hip Hop DX for an exclusive interview. “People started checking for us. They know we were printing money,” said P as he reminisced about several classic rap acts, such as Eminem, TI, Nas, nearly signing with his iconic No Limit Records label. He also spoke about managing and advising Meek Mill before he signed with MMG and passing on working with Curren$y. Also touched on, in the second part, is Master P’s brief career in the NBA, playing for the Charlotte Hornets.
The most memorable recollection that Master P shared was how he met the late, great New Orleans emcee Soulja Slim. “To me, Soulja Slim was our Tupac,” said P. “For us, Soulja Slim was that next thing that we could relate to.” However, Master P met Slim while he was still thugging in the street. According to P, his first time meeting Slim, he had to stop him from robbing one of his producers. After P quelled the situation, he and Slim exchanged info, and the rest is history.
For the most part, Master P kicks a lot of game in this interview about how he was able to ascend to the status that he got to. He also gives warnings to those coming up. When speaking about his former artists, brother C-Murder and rapper Mac who are now serving life sentences, P said, “A lot of us are addicted to our communities and our homeboys.” He also speaks on how he was delivered from certain death when he was shot at.
