It’s been a rough year for Meek Mill, mostly due to the overwhelming perception that he his rap beef with Drake. However, life is real, too, and Meek may find himself back behind bars very soon.
“I’m actually fighting for my life and freedom,” wrote the MMG rhymer on Instagram, with an evidently heavy heart. From his post, it appears that Meek is going through it again with the powers-that-be in Philadelphia. According to TMZ, he is facing the revocation of his probation for taking an unauthorized trip out of state. As of November 1, the rapper was mandated to obtain a travel voucher if he planned on leaving PA. Apparently, he did not do so when he attended the American Music Awards in LA on November 22. He appeared in court this morning.
On IG, Meek wrote, “[This is] Something I’ve been going thru from a case I caught at 19 years old and been on probation since… I am 28 now.” Meek (government name Robert Williams) has been in the system since 2008, when he was booked in 2008 on gun and drug charges. He served eight months of his 11 to 23 month prison sentence and began five years of probation in 2009. He has squabbled with the judge, DA and his probation officer for years, mostly over Meek making unauthorized trips out of state. Meek feels as though those holding his life in their hands have personal issues with him and are trying to hold him back.
The last time Meek was locked up was in 2014 when his parole was revoked for violations, and he was sentenced to three to six months. That time, Common Pleas Court Judge Genece E. Brinkley surmised, “After all these years of me trying to help him move his career forward . . . I believe this defendant is basically thumbing his nose at me.”
Nicki Minaj, Meek’s lady, stood by her man in the courtroom this morning. According to Newser, she appeared to testify on Meek’s behalf. Hopefully the word of an international superstar will hold some bearing, and Meek can continue to chase his dreams.
I’m actually fighting for my life and freedom … Something I’ve been going thru from a case I caught at 19 years old and been on probation since… I am 28 now … It’s funny to see people on the internet laughing and joking about me and my family going thru these things, it’s just shows me where the world is at nowadays! But if you are for me prayers up and wish me the best! Thank you to everybody that ever supported and I will continue to b great! If this is my last post know I will continue to remain strong and grow to b a better man and set a example for every minority with a dream that anything is possible!
