On social media, there are jokesters out there who try to clown rap icon Nas by saying that he’s broke. Nothing is further from the truth. While Esco has not been so active on the mic as of late, he has been making moves in the entrepreneurial realm. In 2013, it was reported that Nas has invested in a number of startups including Fancy, Coinbase, Rap Genius, Prism Skylabs, Zest Finance, Stance, mParticle, Proven, Earbits, Trendabl, Crowdtilt, 21E6, Balanced, MeCommerce, DeviantArt, 500 Startups, Push IO, Swarm Mobile, Glio, Boosted Boards, MadeFire, Fashion GPS, Washio, SellSimple, Hotelzilla, Signal Ventures, Clean Plates, BOXC, MediaSpike, CapLinked, and SendHub.
Now, Nasty Nas is looking to jump into film production. According to The Wrap, he will be executive producing a movie called The Land, which will debut at the next year’s Sundance Film Festival. The Land is a film by Steven Caple, Jr. and will be collaboratively produced by Priority Pictures, Low Spark Films and MACRO. The Wrap gives the plot:
“The Land” tells the story of four teenage boys who devote their summer to escaping the streets of Cleveland, Ohio to pursue a dream life of professional skateboarding. When they get caught in the web of a local drug queenpin, their motley brotherhood is put to the test.
The cast for this film will also feature acting from some favorites of the hip-hop community. such as R&B pillar Erykah Badu, Michael K.Williams and Machine Gun Kelly. Nas will also be producing the soundtrack. Be on the lookout for more developments.
