Life after his standout collegiate career at Ohio State, NBA player, Greg Oden’s journey has been a rocky one. His career on the court has been hampered by injuries and he just hasn’t lived up to his billing as the top pick in the 2007 NBA draft . This past year, as a member of NBA champion runners-up, the Miami Heat, Oden averaged a measly 2.9 points and 2.3 rebounds in 23 regular games last season. Now, he’s a free agent and hopes that a team will pick him up. Added to the stress of an unknown professional future, Oden, 26, found himself in hot water early this morning when he was arrested on several battery charges in Lawrence, Ind..
Apparently, this is the latest in a series of professional athletes getting into domestic altercations with their significant others. USA Today reports that police arrived at Oden’s home and found Oden’s girlfriend on the ground, crying and covering her face. The witness to the incident implied that Oden punched the woman in the face. She was said to have been uncooperative with police initially. The cops noticed, “blood, swelling to the nose, lacerations to the forehead and nose area of the victim’s face” and “observed blood on the sofa and floor in the sitting area. (They) observed (blood) on the living room carpet (and) dirt from a flower pot that was knocked over,” according to the police report. Oden was taken into custody, charged with two counts of misdemeanor battery.
