El Chapo isn’t the only one who can escape prison and evade police for years. In fact, an escaped murderer has been more successful than the drug lord in avoiding recapture after escaping from the bing. Oscar Juarez has been one of Ohio’s most wanted fugitives since he escaped from prison in 1978. He was convicted of murder n 1975. He hasn’t been brought into custody until today. The US Marshals Service finally caught up to the 66 year old in St. Paul Minnesota.
The murderer was taken into custody in Minnesota’s state capital at an apartment building. It is unclear how long Juarez has been in Minnesota, according to officials. U.S. marshal for northern Ohio Pete Elliott said, “We know if he was in several different states over the years. It wasn’t one thing that led us to his doorstep. It was a number of things and good old-fashioned police work.”
Juarez, who was serving a life sentence for killing a Toledo man in 1975, escaped from a state prison in Marion in 1978 by sawing through prison bars and cutting through a fence, according to the marshals. They say he also put a dummy in his bed and covered it with blankets.
Oddly enough, Juarez has been apprehended twice since his escape in Texas and California. However, he was let go each time, because he used fake identities, according to the FBI. He worked as a welder and machine operator under at least seven different aliases.
