Not too long ago, the state of Oregon made headlines when it became one of the first states int he nation to legalize cannabis for recreational use. The weed legalization pioneer state will give tree seekers a more convenient alternative for purchasing bud with the opening of its first weed drive-thru setup. Cannabis distributor Green Life Oregon will be opening its first dispensary with a drive-thru window, in the coastal town of Gold Beach, on 4/20 (April 20), of course.
According to The Oregonian, this will not be the first weed drive-thru in the nation (despite reports that it is). Green Life Oregon is following in the footsteps of Sonshine Organics in Olympia, WA, who started allowing medical-cannabis patients to drive up and order their bud off of a menu in 2012. It was also found that at least three Detroit dispensaries have drive-thru windows. However, it does appear that Green Life Oregon’s drive-thru may be the first recreational one.
The new dispensary is expected to be a fiscal shot-in-the-arm for Gold Beach, which is described as a “depressed former timber boomtown.” “I’ve seen the business plan, I’ve met the investors, and I believe this venture is going to be quite an asset to the area,” said Curry County Economic Development Director Julie Schmelzer. “Their plans for expansion and other amenities can help Gold Beach and the southwestern coast become a destination for those interested in the new green tourism we are fortunate to be a part of.”
