Two things have been owning the internet as of late: the Ferguson protests and the Ice Bucket Challenge. On social media, both have had a heavy presence. Of course, celebrities have been participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge in large numbers to raise money for ALS research. There have been mixed signals as to celebrity reactions to the events in Ferguson. Some feel that celebrities should stay in their lane, while some feel that the stars should use their voices and platforms to speak out against the atrocious killings of unarmed Black men at the hands of police. While many have stayed quiet, some celebs have stepped up to the microphone and said something. People have lauded tweets and statements made by David Banner and John Legend as well as J. Cole‘s trip to ground zero in Ferguson to stand with the people. Met with mixed reactions have been scathing remarks by B.o.B., T.I. and Nelly (who hails from St. Louis of which Ferguson is a suburb).
However, television and film star, Orlando Jones known from television programs such as Sleepy Hollow, MAD TV and Everybody Hates Chris and movies such as Drumline and Double Take decided to combine both the Ferguson protests and the Ice Bucket Challenge. The result is “The Bullet Bucket Challenge.” In reaction to police brutality and the high numbers of Black lives lost, Jones replaced the Ice Bucket Challenge’s bucket of ice water with a bucket of bullets which he dumped on his head.
The video of Jones’s Bullet Bucket Challenge can be seen below. An exclusive interview he did with Fusion can be read here.
