P Gutta of GS9 Reveals The Real Reason Bobby Shmurda Is Locked Up
It’s been a rough year for up-and-coming rap star Bobby Shmurda. When he dropped his video for “Hot Nigga,” produced by Jahlil Beats, the Brooklyn upstart was propelled to rap stardom. However, his future (and those of fellow GS9 members) is in jeopardy following an arrest for “conspiracy, reckless endangerment, and weapons and drug charges.” His problems were exacerbated when his lady allegedly tried to slip him a shank during a visit at Rikers Island. Bobby’s friend and road manager P Gutta believes that there’s more to the story than meets the eye. He believes Bobby, Rowdy Rebel and the other GS9 affiliates were targeted because they associate with him.
First, let’s get to know P Gutta a little bit. Most people might know the name from his recent riff with 50 Cent or from organizing the recent peace walk led by Brooklyn gangs (Crips, Bloods and GD’s), but his is a name that rings on the streets of Brownsville. He is a ranking member of the G Stone Crips (GSC), the set that is parent to the GS9 rap crew. “GSC is a street crew. We in the streets. We do what we do. GSC is active in New York City and all throughout the east coast. Everybody’s like get your cash, get your money,” he explained. “GS9, now, is dudes out of the 90’s that’s GSC, however, we have dudes outside of the 90’s that are associated, so they call themselves GS9 as well. As long as you official and you bang with the kid, the kid’s gonna bang with you.”

P Gutta was released from prison last year after serving 10 years upstate. P Gutta didn’t elaborate on the charges that landed him in the bing for nine years, but he expounded on an incident that got the tenth year tacked on to his sentence. “I went up north for 10 years. I caught a new charge because this officer was beating on some Blood dudes and I jumped in to help a Blood kid, because I didn’t like that he was beating him up, so you have a Blood and a Crip fighting an officer,” he reflected. “I got a year for that, so my nine year turned into ten after I got my reversal, so I came home in 10 years.”
After coming home, he hit the gentleman’s club for a performance at Club Lust, with Bobby Shmurda and GS9, which caught the attention of music execs. He remembered, “The day after that, the record labels started called my little man Bobby Shmurda and Rowdy Rebel and I got a job as assistant road manager with Bobby. I was managing him until he got locked up.”
P Gutta believes that the authorities are giving Bobby and his comrades a hard time due to his past beefs with the law, most notably a shootout in 2001. “I used to have a big drug area in the 90’s, the police tried to extort us in the neighborhood. You know the hip-hop police? That’s who I’m speaking of,” he said. “There was a regular cop that was patrolling this area. Long story short, I opened fire on him, you heard? He called for backup and they came and I opened fire on them.”

Though police raided P Gutta’s grandmother’s crib and wanted him to turn himself in, he ended up with the upper-hand. He beat the case. He believes “the boys” are still hot that he beat them and target everyone he associates with. “I beat the case and they never forgave me for that, so every time they get an itch, they want to try to everybody associated with me,” he said. “That’s why I think Bobby and them is in prison now.”
P Gutta has faith that Bobby Shmurda, Rowdy Rebel and the rest of the crew have a good chance of coming home, though they’ve been sitting on Rikers for a minute now. “Everything that they using against Bobby cannot be used in court, like the phone records or their assault records or the lyrics from their music,” he surmised. “They can’t use any of those things because it’s circumstantial. It’s not facts.”
He gave an update of Bobby and the crew saying, “Everybody’s doing time, you know? They’re in prison. It’s like everybody else with a conspiracy case. They’re in there. They don’t want to be in there. They want to come home.”
While we wait to see if Bobby, Rowdy and the other GS9ers will go free or be sitting for an extended timeout, P Gutta wants everyone to keep up with the music being put out through his Blue Light Productions, especially a new mixtape coming, either later this month or next month. “Check out this music. We’re coming through with it hard body. It’s on fire right now. Pay attention to this music coming right now. We got a whole bunch of music.”
