People Continue To Support Bad Police
Police brutality is a problem that has plagued the American society for far too long. Across the nation, police have been abusing innocent people with little to no repercussions. Also, it seems like every time a bad cop is put on blast in the headlines, there is a group of people willing to rally to support that officer’s actions. The most recent event where this happened occurred in Madison, AL.
Madison police officer Eric Parker faces third degree assault charges after a brutal attack on February 6. The victim was Sureshbhai Patel, an Indian grandfather who had been in the United States for a week with his son, Chirag Patel’s family to care for their new baby. Every morning, the elderly Patel would go on a walk. For some reason, a newsy neighbor called the police on Patel, describing him as “a skinny black guy, he’s got a toboggan on, he’s really skinny.”
Parker and his trainee Andrew Slaughter, responded to the call. They found Patel and started questioning him. The police officers ended up attacking the feeble man and the damage resulted in the old man being paralyzed. He could not respond to their commands due to the language barrier.
As people close to the case wait to hear what will come of the charges, supporters of Parker have set up an Indiegogo account to support the accused police officer. In four days, the campaign has raised over $3,000 towards its goal of $10,000. The campaign has been shared over 600 times on Facebook. There are 23 days left.
