Pounds of Coke In Your Bra, Ma?
In Blow, George Jung (played by Johnny Depp) spoke on the best practices for hauling drugs internationally. He said it’s best to focus on something pleasant to keep your mind off the long sentence you’ll get if authorities find the dope you’re smuggling. Surely, the Jamaican woman busted yesterday by the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida is trying to think pleasant thoughts. She was caught trying to move weight in her bra.
According to Caribbean News Now:
CBP officers found a white, powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine inside the bra after noticing abnormalities during an inspection. A total of 2.7 pounds of cocaine was seized and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
Director at Fort Lauderdale Airport Jorge Roig lauded the CBP saying, “This is another excellent example of our CBP officers’ expertise in preventing dangerous drugs from entering the United States.”
Usually smugglers will use false bottoms in bags or something else more covert to transport drugs. This woman was either extremely bold, or ignorant to what she was involving herself in to try to smuggle so much coke in her bra. The CBP is the primary arm of the Homeland Security Office and, in their mission to combat terrorism, they are inspecting everything coming into the country. It’s silly to think they won’t find the 2.7 pounds of blow in your bra. The near-future should be a volatile time for this unfortunate woman. Another day, another drug bust in an American airport. So often, someone attempts to smuggle some contraband (mostly cocaine) into the United States from overseas, but their plans go awry so often.
