Prison Strikes Continue to Spread Across US and Canada
Inmates in at least seven states are participating in a 19-day prison strike. The organizers of the strike claim their goal is to raise awareness of what they call the “prison-industrial slave complex.” The inmates are refusing to work and in some cases refusing to eat to bring about change in the prison system. The last major prison strike took place in 2016 when more than 24,000 inmates in 24 states took part in the largest US prison strike in history.
