For the past few days– on social media and in real life– there has been a lot of talk surrounding sexual assault and the treatment of Black women/girls. These conversations were spurred in large part by dream hampton’s rivetting docuseries Surviving R. Kelly which chronicled some of the gross, unspeakable sexual crimes of R&B legend R. Kelly imposed upon underage girls and women. Apparently, according to reports, the docuseries is has led to an actual criminal investigation into Kelly.
The investigation into R. Kelly’s alleged crimes has supposedly kicked off in Georgia. TMZ reports that sources connected to the case are saying that the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office has been performing the probe over the last few days. The sources say that the investigation is a “direct result” of the docuseries. The report says that the office was “flooded” with phone calls after it aired
The reports indicate that the authorities have been reaching out to subjects featured in Surviving R. Kelly.TMZ confirmed that investigators have reached out to Asante McGee, an accuser who allegedly escaped R. Kelly. The attorney for the family of Jocelyn Savage has also been contacted. They are seeking information from anyone else who has lived in Kelly’s old home in Atlanta or have any direct knowledge of what happened there.
