Disclaimer: The rumors in this article are purely that. All of the rumors came from real people, from public sources, but in no way is Don Diva Magazine presenting them as fact.
Ask any parent who’s gone through it and they’ll tell you: burying their child die is the worst pain this world has to offer. Too many parents in inner-city neighborhoods share this experience having lost sons and daughters to the perils of the streets. Few other places have more members of this tragic sorority of mothers and fraternity of fathers than the city of Chicago. With renegade gangs of unschooled, unsophisticated youngins, many young people become memories for grieving parents. The most publicized parents of a slain child that we’ve seen in some time are Karla Lee and Pierre “Wooh Gotti” Stokes, parents of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee. However, though the school portrait of little Tyshawn circulate social media with loving messages as a show of solidarity, Lee and Stokes have assumed the attention of critics throughout the nation.
To give some background, Tyshawn was shot multiple times after being lured into an alley in the Auburn Gresham section of the city, a Southside neighborhood known by locals as “Killa Ward.” The fourth grader’s death comes as a byproduct of the decades-long beef between the Gangster Disciples and the Black P Stone Nation. The assailants, members of Black P Stone faction Terror Dome, were looking to exact revenge against Stokes, a supposed member of the Killa Ward GD’s in what Chicago PD Superintendent Garry McCarthy deemed “probably the most abhorrent, cowardly, unfathomable crime” he’d seen in his 35 years on the force. The two crews have been going at it violently since August, according to the Chicago Tribune. Facebook user Reginald Smith, for whatever reason, implicated himself in Tyshawn’s murder:
Since the tragedy, Lee and Stokes have come under fire with vitriolic accusations from residents of Chicago and beyond. Most notably, Lee has been embroiled in controversy since purchasing a 2015 Chrysler 200, allegedly with funds from a GoFundMe account set up to finance Tyshawn’s homegoing. Supporters flooded the campaign, titled “Help me lay my baby to rest,” with cash, surpassing the $10,000 goal by donating a total of $17,492. However, they benefactors were shocked to see the dealership broadcast the transaction in a (now deleted) social media post. Lee took to social media to defend herself, claiming that she made the downpayment with her own money and that the car was a necessary purchase for her own safety after her life was allegedly threatened. She claims the vehicle (with a starting price of about $22,000) was copped so that she could get from Point A to Point B, instead of being vulnerable to predators, walking ad taking public transportation.
Obviously, donors have posted their disapproval of the car purchase on the GoFundMe account and social media networks. However, there are much darker allegations that have been levied against Lee, based on Facebook and Instagram posts she made last month, before her son was slaughtered. The main posts that raised eyebrows can be seen below:
People believe that Lee has had it in her mind to get a car for a while now, and have accused her of doing the unthinkable: orchestrating the murder of her own child. An example of such an (unfounded) accusation can be seen below:
The “Tommy” mentioned in the preceding screenshot refers to an aspiring Youtube shock jock and his venomous tirade, in which he implies that both Lee and Stokes may have had their own son killed. It has also been said that a funeral home offered to cover the funeral costs, but that has also not been proven.
Stokes has also been dragged through the ringer. As mentioned before, under the alias “Wooh Gotti,” Stokes is an alleged member of the GD’s. The news media as criticized Stokes for not cooperating police and giving information on his son’s killers. Social media has expressed condolences, but has also been scattered with (again unfounded) hearsay about Stokes’ activities in the streets, depicting him as a “hitta” (Chicago slang for “killer”) whose actions led to Tyshawn’s (known to some affectionately as “Lil’ Wooh”) death:
At the end of the day, a child was lost, and his killers are still at large. Through October, “Killa Ward” has recorded 28 homicides, tying for second most in Chicago’s 22 patrol districts. The reward for information on Tyshawn’s murder has risen to $54,600, according to Rev. Michael Pfleger.
Sadly, a memorial for Tyshawn has burned to the ground. The reasons behind the fire are unknown.
Once again, the rumors posted in this article are purely rumors and have not been proven. Don Diva Magazine is making no defamatory accusations against Karla Lee or Pierre Stokes. Simply reporting what’s out there.
