Inessa Tarverdieva, 48, and her dentist husband, Roman Podkopaev, 35, were respectable folks on the surface. They were a college educated, “dull and normal” family, with an affinity for camping trips. Tarverdieva, at one point, was a Kindergarten teacher. Underneath the surface, they were cold-blooded, ruthless gangsters who didn’t give a fuck about anything besides money and power. The secret crime family is believed to be behind 30 murders in Russia. Tarverdieva, the boss of the family gang, even trained her eldest daughter, Vicktoria, 27, to kill. Earlier this week, from a glass court cage, rocking a red dress and Louboutin shoes, with her face caked up with heavy, designer makeup (which are banned in the Rostov-on-Don detention center where she’s being held), Tarverdieva confessed to 10 murders (including that of her 12-year-old goddaughter) and one count of attempted murder.
The family is accused of forming their gang (known as the Amazons, due to its female leadership) in 2007, but their murder spree is believed to have started a decade earlier. Tarverdieva likened the family’s killing and robbery to ‘going to the office for a day’s work.’ She also expressed a true disdain for law enforcement and boasted, “I’m a gangster by nature.”
Anybody could get it; family members, cops, civilians, young children, whomever. According to the boss, killings were carried out to obtain more weapons and “purely for the sake of money.” The Daily Mail details the gang’s work:
In 2009, the gang used a semi-automatic weapon to kill paratrooper Dmitry Chudakov, his wife Irina and son Sasha, 7, in a motorway lay by – before knifing daughter Veronika, 11, no less than 37 times.
They stole a laptop, hair dryer and a camera, valued in total at £950.
Six years earlier, the crime family murdered Tarverdieva’s goddaughter Lera Klochko and her 13-year-old best friend Tanya Cherednikova in a barbaric double shooting as they robbed her home in Stavropol region.
The girls had recognised the mobsters breaking into Lera’s family home. In revenge, both were shot dead through one eye…
The group were finally arrested after a robbery on the home of a former military officer in Baklanova Street, Aksai, in Rostov region.
As well as killing an unnamed husband and wife, they stole alcohol and candles – as well as chicken drumsticks from the fridge – after finding no money.
Podkopaev and his adopted daughter Viktoria tried to escape on a scooter but minutes after leaving the crime scene they were stopped for an ID check by police.
He was killed, she suffered serious bullet wounds from which she has recovered.
Other victims included over a dozen police officers. Searches of the family’s homes yielded “20 firearms, including automatic rifles, grenades, shotguns, silencers and ammunition” as well as stolen goods. Tarverdieva is additionally charged with organizing a gang, violent attacks and illegal usage of arms. Viktoria also faces charges for participating in the murders, her first being her biological father, Tarverdieva’s first husband, Arzu Podkopaev.
Also charged are her late husband’s sister, Anastasiya and her husband, Sergey Sinelik. They are not believed to have taken part in the violence, but they hid the killers and provided police walkie-talkies, so they could know what the cops were doing as they plotted.
Tarverdieva’s 15-year-old daughter, also named Anastasiya, also participated in the family business by getting rid of stolen goods, but she is too young to be charged.
