The Skid Row section of Los Angeles has a reputation as one of the most impoverished areas in the United States. In fact, Skid Row has one of the most stable populations of homeless people in the nation, being home to thousands folks without homes. Due to this reality, the area is also teeming with drug addicts, and is a target of dealers who have what they want. One of the latter, was allegedly Derrick Turner, who has been labeled as a kingpin. Around 3:30 AM, yesterday morning, LA SWAT descended upon Turner’s home, in Cerritos, to arrest him for supplying the “drug bazaar” that is Skid Row. Turner, 48, was brought in on felony charges of possession of narcotics for sale, receiving the proceeds of drug sales and conspiracy. He was lead out of the house in his pajamas, as his kids could be heard crying inside.
According to the LA Times, “Turner’s home on Teresa Court was one of 20 locations raided by LAPD and a regional drug task force. Police said they arrested 16 of the 20 suspects for whom they had warrants to take into custody.” Also arrested in connection with the case were Chasity Jackson, Henry Walker and Louis Bernard McAdoo. Facing five felony charges, McAdoo is “the other principal” in this conspiracy, police say. According to ABC, previous warrants served in connection with Turner’s case lead to the seizures of “13 kilos of cocaine, 22 pounds of methamphetamine, 20 pounds of heroin along with $1.8 million, which included more than $600,000 in one-dollar bills.” Though detectives had information that Turner was armed with an AK-47 and scoped rifle, the authorities would not comment on whether or not any drugs, guns or cash were actually found in his home.
Allegedly, Turner is affiliated with the Athens Bloods, but works with Grape Street to facilitate his alleged business.
