Slim Jesus, the 18-year-old rapper from Hamilton, Ohio, went viral after releasing visuals for his record “Drill Time.” He shook the Internet with his song by having celebrities such as Amber Rose, Diddy, Lil Bibby, Andy Milanokis, Lil Herb, and others speak about the young rapper publicly on social media. Just a few days after the release it managed to generate millions of views. What was intriguing was his artist perception: a skinny, fragile, and innocent looking child talking ign’ant on a heavy 808 based drill beat. But what made Slim Jesus more controversial was when he went on an interview with Vlad TV and admitted to not being about that life he raps. His interview alone generated 3.6 million views, which since 2008 has been Vlad’s most viewed interview. It has had more interviews than Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, and Ja Rule.
With all the attention Slim was garnering, Birdman, CEO of Cash Money Records, didn’t hesitate to reach out to the young rapper in an attempt to sign him to his label. Offering many incentives as to why Sim Jesus should sign, he stated, “I got the biggest artist in the world.” The topic of Lil Wayne leaving the label was simply laughed off by Birdman as he responded “Wayne ain’t goin’ nowhere man.”
It was stated in an interview with Chicago rapper King Yella, who is apparently working closely with Slim Jesus, that Mr. Drill Time allegedly hung up on Birdman. He enforced this by posting a video on Instagram making it clear that he is independent. In the video, he took a contract that “all y’all favorite rappers” sign, and burned it. He did it to emphasize his stance. He claimed at the end of the video, “Fuck a label, we getting independent money, bitch.”
The amount of money offered to Slim Jesus by Birdman may not have been much. Diddy took it to Twitter one night stating that he had $1 million dollars waiting for Slim Jesus at Bad Boy Records. In the interview with Vlad, Slim Jesus claimed that he would be willing to take that offer if Diddy was serious, but Slim Jesus is assuming that Diddy was just drunk tweeting.
