Bidding is at $15,000 for one pair. Another pair, $11,100. These are some of the most recent auction bids for the limited edition Eminem x Carhartt x Jordan 4 collaboration sneaker. There will only be ten pairs auctioned off to the public, and vying monetarily on Ebay will be the only way sneaker fiends will be able to get their hands on them. The auctions started on November 13 and end at exactly 1 PM EST on November 23. Hundreds of bids have already surpassed the $100,000 mark collectively and that sum is growing rapidly.
This limited release is the second collaboration Eminem has had with the Jordan brand the highly sought-after “Eminem” 4, of which only 50 pairs were made for Em’s family and friends (fetching up to $30,000 at auction). Such a high profile release project that blends a rap artist and iconic urban sneaker brand was a first of its kind, and other emcees like Drake, Nicki Mina and Macklemore have followed suit. The use of rugged brand such as Carhartt for the latest Marhall Matherses is a nod to the humble beginnings of the Detroit lyricist. With the backwards E logo gracing the back of the right shoe and the trademark hockey mask on the left, the famous Carhartt canvas material makes up the design of these rare sets of kicks.
Sneaker collectors have been going crazy over this most recent release, and the astronomical bids show it. $19,000 is currently the highest. The fact that there will only be ten pairs ever made has created a frenzy, and anyone who gets a pair of these sneakers in their possession will own a piece of Jordan history.
With so much controversy surrounding the Jordan brand and its impact on urban America, it is good to see the sale of at least one release benefit so many for a good cause. All proceeds will benefit the Michigan State University Literacy Through Songwriting program. This program will directly support the Community Music School of Detroit in the Motor City, Eminem’s hometown.
