Last week, Don Diva broke the news that infamous Harlem kingpin, Alberto “Alpo” Martinez had been released from prison and is now living in the witness protection program. Though, he remains one of the most successful, flashy drug dealers that the country has ever seen, he will go down in history as a “rat” for snitching on hit man Wayne Perry and others in return for a lighter sentence. This happens more times than not, as people who entered the drug game, knowing the potential consequences, but can’t live with those consequences. The latest instance of a snitch saving their own ass by giving up someone else is the recent events concerning one Crystal Lewis, 29. Lewis snitched on rapper/gangster Ra Diggs to lessen her own sentence.
Ra Diggs, government name Ronald Herron, had dreams of rap stardom. He is also accused of being a high-ranking leader of the Murderous Mad Dawgs, a Brooklyn-based set of the Bloods. The Murderous Mad Dawgs are labeled as the suppliers of crack and heroin in the Gowanus and Wyckoff Houses in the BK neighborhood of Boerum Hill. Seen as the “leader of a violent drug crew,” Ra Diggs was sentenced to three life sentences plus 105 years in prison last April.
Lewis helped put Ra Diggs behind bars by taking the stand against him. She identified him as the overseer of a crack operation running out out of the Gowanus Houses. She also implicated Ra Diggs in a 2008 plot to kill rival crack dealer Victor Zapata. Lewis had pleaded guilty to being in on the conspiracy to off Zapata. Federal Judge Nicholas Garaufis sentenced Lewis to time served for her cooperation against Ra Diggs on Tuesday. She had been on house arrest as she awaited sentencing.
According to the NY Daily News, the judge told her, “You can take pride and comfort with the fact that you helped rid our community of one of the most vicious and dangerous criminals walking the streets of Brooklyn.”
Lewis said, “I’m not perfect but I’m working at being a better person for me and for my children.”
