On Monday (November 19), hip-hop veterans Statik Selektah and Termanology announced that they would be releasing the follow-up to their 2010 collaborative effort, 1982. The Lowell, MA duo chose the name for the theme based on the year that both of them were born. Today, Statik and Term lived up to their words and dropped the new album, Still 1982.
The team stayed true to their roots, delivering a project accentuated by hard-hitting, vintage boom bap production. The 12-track offering features guest appearances from Conway, CRIMEAPPLE, Lil Fame of MOP and Mtume, among others.
“I love making the 1982 projects with Statik because we have a formula we use and it always works,” Termanology told Hip-Hop DX. “We always have a couple conceptual songs, some really grimy, disrespectful songs, a radio song or two, some boom bap beats with scratches and a little R&B with some updated topics lyrically.”
“It’s definitely filling a gap right now of just fun, traditional East Coast Hip Hop,” Statik Selektah added. “No extra hype or gimmicks. Got some fun guests on it.”
