Podcaster Taxstone has been indicted for the murder of Troy Ave’s bodyguard Ronald “Banga” McPhatter at Irving Plaza in Brooklyn last year. Tax, legal name Darryl Campbell, has been charged with second degree for the shooting death of McPhatter on May 25, 2016.
The charges come more than a year after the chaotic bang out at a T.I. concert. Taxstone and Troy Ave had highly publicized beef that had been mounting for some time before the incident. The shooting happened in the VIP room of the venue. Troy Ave was also shot in the leg and was arrested the next day after being caught on camera running out of the VIP area firing a gun as onlooker dove for cover.
No one had been charged with McPhatter’s death until now. Taxstone is currently awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to federal weapons charges in June. According to DNA Info, “…Assistant U.S. Attorney Hagan Scotten repeatedly accused Taxstone of firing the fatal shot and told a judge in January that a witness was prepared to testify that the podcaster had fired the fatal shot.”
Tax has pleaded not guilty to the second degree murder charges.
