Third & Final Arrest Made For Murder of Tyshawn Lee
Last November, the nation was shocked by the shooting death of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee, who was lured into an alley and killed in Chicago’s Auburn-Gresham section. The boy’s death was the result of ongoing gang warfare in the neighborhood. Three suspects were sought for Tyshawn’s murder. Two men–Corey Morgan, 27, and Dwright Boone-Doty, 22–have been arrested and are charged with first-degree murder. On Saturday, the third suspect was apprehended by police.
Kevin Edwards, 23, the third suspect, was arrested after a “traffic violation stop,” according to FOX6. He was stopped two

hours south of Chicago, in Vermilion County, which borders Indiana. Edwards was a passenger in the car and tried to run from police. Before being taken into custody, he provided a fake name to police. He awaits transfer to the Chicago Police Department.
Interim superintendent of the Chicago PD says that in comparison to the numerous gang killings that Chicago sees, Tyshawn’s death was “was something far more sinister.” Back in November, we described the circumstances that led to the tragedy:
…according to the Chicago Crusader, little Tyshawn’s death was, indeed, one of a few by-products of gang warfare in Chicago’s Auburn/Gresham neighborhood on the Southside, known as Killa Ward. According to Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, there has been an ongoing gang war since at least August, possibly as far back as two years ago. The feuding factions are the Killa Ward Gangster Disciples and the Bang Bang Gang, a subset of the Black P Stone Nation splinter group, Terror Dome.Pertaining to Tyshawn’s death, McCarthy said, “We believe this is the most recent in a series of gang-related violent events.” According to the Crusader, the rash of violence began in the early morning of August 5, when Adarius Hayes, a member of the Killa Ward GD’s was found dead in a car, shot in the chest.
On October 13, Bang Bang Gang member Tracey “T-Time” Morgan was targeted along with his mother by gunent. Morgan’s mother was injured by gunfire, but Morgan died from slugs to the abdomen. In an unfortunate turn of events, Morgan, a parolee, was killed minutes after attending a gang “call-in” meeting. These meetings are held to offer social services and other forms of aid to gangster wishing to leave the life.
Five days later, around 4:30 PM Brianna Denise Jenkins, 19, sat in a car with 20-year-old man, believed to be a member of the Killa Ward GD’s. A gunman rolled up on the car and fired several shots inside, mortally striking Jenkins several times. Her company that night was also hit, but was able to flee the scene on foot. Jenkins was said to have a “bubbly” personality and was a former cheerleader Amos Alonzo Stagg High School in Palos Hills.
Tyshawn’s father, Pierre “Wooh Gotti” Stokes is a documented of the Killa Ward GD’s. He now sits in prison on three felony counts of aggravated battery and one felony count of unlawful use/possession of a weapon, for shooting at three people in retaliation. He was denied bail in March.
