Depending on who you talk to, there are a lot of folks who are down on pastors in the community. Many believe that men of the cloth use their position to rob naive congregations of their money. Well, one pastor in Toledo took this notion to another level when he, his wife and daughter allegedly robbed one of his church’s Sunday School teachers at gunpoint this weekend.
The pastor in question is Anthony Morris, 49, of St. Paul’s AME Zion Church in downtown Toledo. His wife, Zelda Morris, 46, and daughter Kamali Morris, 19, have all been charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, which is a first degree felony. They stand accused of forcefully robbing 39-year-old Sunday School teacher Nickema Turner. According to the Toledo Blade, Turner was teaching when the pastor’s daughter grabbed her hair. According to the police report, at this point, the church’s first lady began punching Turner and the pastor pushed her to the ground. During the attack, Mrs. Morris allegedly dumped everything out of Turner’s purse. When Turner tried to retrieve her spilled items, Pastor Morris allegedly pulled a gun, pointed it at her and threatened to kill her. The family then made off with two prescription bottles, a Taser and a cell phone.
The Morris family fled the scene before the cops came. Anthony and Zelda Morris have since been arrested, but according to the Toledo police, Kamali Morris is still at large. Turner got her phone back, though the glass was broken. She was treated for her injuries t the scene by Toledo Fire and Rescue crews. Turner and other witnesses verified the actions of the Morris family to police.
