The video of Baltimore Ravens running back, Ray Rice dragging his unconscious, then-fiancé, Janay Palmer off of a Revel Hotel & Casino elevator made waves. However, many people thought he needed a second chance. The NFL thought his actions only warranted a two game suspension (though they threw the book at Cleveland Browns wide receiver, Josh Gordon for smoking weed, suspending him for a whole season). New Jersey state prosecutors thought he deserved a first time offenders’ program (though they denied Philadelphia mother, Shaneen Allen the same privilege for carrying her legal gun across state lines). Even his victim thought he deserved a second chance by becoming his wife after the whole fracas.
Today, TMZ released exclusive footage from inside the Atlantic City elevator, capturing the grisly scene with Ray Rice and Palmer. The video from February shows the two walking to the elevator. when Palmer took a swipe at Rice. On the elevator, Rice appears to smack Palmer drawing another light swipe from Palmer. After she touches him, the 5’8″ 220 pound athlete hit Palmer with a crushing left hook, knocking her down to the ground. She looks to have left her feet on contact with Rice’s fist.
Ray Rice served the first game of his suspension as the NFL opened it’s season yesterday. He has one more game to go. As stated before, he is in the first time offenders program for first time offenders and the two married merely a month after the altercation happened. Nevertheless, the situation and the NFL’s handling of it has drawn mixed emotions on social media, but the overwhelming feeling is that Rice deserved more than the slaps on the wrists he received.
