In this week’s edition of “What Would Shauna Do? (#WWSD),” opinionated relationship critic Shauna Sayomi reflects on the notion of financing a par of sneakers and reveals how she would react if her man did so.
Sole Collector, a widely popular sneaker site with updates on exclusives, release dates and a marketplace, recently reported about kingdom of kicks Flight Club offering the option to finance high end sneakers. In particular the Yeezy 750 Boosts.
Let’s set the scene. My man receives a fresh pair of these “sneakers” in the mail. He is clearly excited since’s got the coveted “Yeezys,” whatever they are. I’m not very hip to sneakerhead culture. I couldn’t fathom the idea of standing in a long line for a pair of sneakers, waiting overnight or, gasp, financing a pair at 10-30% APR for over $2200! What part of the game is that?! Now this some straight bullshit.
Upon realizing that these hideous moon boots run about $2k a pop, my stomach turns. I’m sick. Maybe it’s the flu, maybe it’s the harrowing realization that my man is a fucking idiot. Ha! No, but seriously, what would I do if my man financed some damned sneakers? I’d laugh at his ass for being a fool. No sneaker is worth ruining your credit. After I’m done laughing, I’m going to hope he keep up his payments. It can get pretty pricey paying a car payment for a pair of shoes you can only wear a few times, for fear of scuffing. Better not let nobody step on them bad boys while you up in the club. How you gon’ act?
At 10-30% APR, these babies can run up to $400 a month or more. I would have to ask my man what he was thinking. Hell, can’t we just send them back and finance a nice new Mercedes Benz? Or perhaps a new home? I’m guessing anyone who’s trying to make payments on these sneakers can’t afford them. All the more reason to leave them on the shelf. Are they an investment? What is the resale looking like a year or two from now? Now don’t get me wrong Fingerhut has been doing this for years, on a much smaller scale of course. But wait, who the hell is trying to finance some $60 K-Swiss and more importantly why??
