WorldstarHipHop has become one of the premier brands in urban culture. Though it’s content which includes brutal street fights, explicit music videos and other videos is viewed by some as controversial, there’s no denying Worldstar’s popularity. Now, if you hear the “Woooorldstaaaar,” chant break out, start running because it’s certain that someone has broken out their camera and shit is about to go down. With thousands of views everyday, it’s clear that it’s the go-to for many in the hip-hop generation for entertainment.
Now, a Worldstar movie is reportedly in the works. Paramount Insurge, Paramount Pictures’ micro-budget is said to be teaming up with hip hop mogul, Russell Simmons and others to produce it. How To Make It In America‘s Ian Edelman pitched the movie, is writing the script and may even be director. Other producers include Worldstar commander and chief, Lee “Q” O’Denat , along with Douglas Banker, Trevor Engelson. The team is looking to begin filming this Fall, anticipating a Spring release.
Those are the only details available at the moment. It is unknown what the movie will be about. Other articles have hinted at the movie being something like MTV’s Jackass or Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. In this writer’s opinion, it sounds like it’ll be an urban version of The Social Network, telling how Worldstar came to be. Being that so little information is available, any guess is valid. Stay tuned for more details.
