Beer is big business. Millions of people around the world enjoy lagers and ales for anything from celebrating a triumph to just winding down for the day. In recent years, the number of beers has expanded vastly. At beer outlets around the country, shoppers have oceans of beers to choose from with flavors ranging from bitter to fruity with colorful, vibrant packaging. The Philadelphia area is home to a number of popular brewing companies. One of them is Dock Street in West Philly. Head brewer, Vince Desrosiers has a special beer in mind to add to his list of zany celebrity-inspired concepts, like his “So Cuttered Hoppy Wheat” for Phillies fan blog Zoo With Roy and “Tom Selleck’s Mustache.” He is set to release a “Ain’t Nuthin’ To Funk With” inspired by The RZA, The GZA, Method Man, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon the Chef, Masta Killa, U-God, Ol’ Dirty Bastard and the rest of the Wu-Tang Clan.
The shtick here is that the golden saison brew is being aged with Wu-Tang playing next to it as it streams from Spotify. The idea didn’t come out of nowhere. Derosiers was inspired by Will Meyers of the Cambridge Brewing Company who actually stimulated the fermentation process using tuning forks for a beer he called “Om.” Derosiers admits that it started as kind of a joke, but then later, he and associates started to wonder if the bass would manipulate the yeast to create some sort of new flavors and tastes.
It is not said whether or not the Wu-Tang Clan is on board with this project. It should be noted that their name is left out of the beer’s name (“Ain’t Nuthin’ To Funk With”). Nevertheless, Derosiers plans on making a brew to the tunes of Run the Jewels, next.
